The least expensive non-cosmetic surface is a call-out to remove tool and machining marks. The part cost is effected by more rigorous molding requirements to achieve the desired finish without blemishes or molding flaws. Surface finish requirements can greatly effect mold and part cost. In most cases the cosmetic side is obvious but if not the surfaces should be clearly identified. The mold finish should be specified for both the cosmetic and non-cosmetic surfaces of the part. Mold finish is often overlooked but it is quite important to discuss during the quoting and mold building process.
